Brain Series
The brain is the pattern of patterns. The formation of the body originates here. It the first labyrinth. It is both integrator and separator. The coils and fissures of the brain are just part of the vast network called the central nervous system. From reptilian to human the brain records it all, like the deep memory that all cities hold over the evolution of their existence.
"The entire cosmos is an organic whole. Just as the cells in our bodies are interrelated, all elements of the universe - from light waves of a distant star to a human being living in Idaho - are interrelated." —Whitehead
Dream houses
The Dream House originates in the ancient City of Epidaurus. The dream houses of ancient were structures that allowed seekers to heal and be touched by their deepest inner wisdom and to carry this wisdom back out into the world. In each dream house there were healers, like shamans guiding people toward their own innate wholeness. Each dream house reflected the innate power of the healer and their unique healing gifts.
This series reflects the ancient intent of the structures, blended with my archetypal pattern studies of the body.
Heart Series
The quaternity. I like to imagine that the four chambers of the heart are an expression of the four divine abodes. To study the heart is to look at the innate geometry of a square or a cube.
"It is the figure, the bodily that has direct access to the unconscious, to desire, to fantasy, to the body itself. It is an access that bypasses the filter of verbal pre-conscious. The figure connects directly with the body and that is with life, with the first source and object of affirmation. The figure reaches the unconscious, the 'representation' of life closest to life in a more direct, speechless, terrifying, commanding, and potentially fascinating way than the already more distanced art of poetry."
Inner Landscapes
These abstract micro-images were taken inside my abstract sculptures. Like our human existence our outer form reveals a small fraction of our mysterious inner landscape.
Spine Series
The linear construct of the spine is the backbone of our stance and the organizing pattern of every vertical building on the planet. The interconnection of this pattern throughout the world of form is as vast as the starlit sky.
"Construction plays the role of bodily processes — around which artistic architectures gather, like dreams around the framework of physiological processes." —Giedion
