Design Concept
Leverage the Natural Topography of the Site: The existing site slopes 30' from South to North property line. Locate the primary site access between the existing South facade and the North Bar addition allowing for a cross-sectional integration between existing an new.
Equality of Natural Light: Locate the new addition to all for a balance access to natural light for all units while preserving the historic value of the existing North facade.
Courtyards as Community Magnets: Prioritize the volumetric space of two inter-connected courtyards to stimulate a new micro-housing community paradigm.
Differentiate and Integrate the New vs the Old: Create a clarity and balance of the new vs the old by using the complimentary material of metal siding for the North addition and the elevated roof clerestory for level 5.
